It is recommended to vaccinate the breeding flock twice before they
first start to lay, and repeat the vaccination once before the second
laying period. That way the goslings are protected by maternal
antibodies in the egg. In addition to that, the goslings should be
vaccinated on the 16th or 17th day after hatching.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm so busy lately I hardly find the time to
read the group. I thought for some it might be interesting even if the
goslings of the OP died of a different reason.
