That is a brilliant idea! I don't have magpie problems, I have chaffinch
problems - if I don't collect the eggs pretty promptly after they've been
laid, the little blighters fly into the nesting box and peck at the eggs -
like bluetits do on milkbottle tops. Upturned boxes with holes in over the
nests would let the eggs drop down, and keep them away from the chaffinches.
