They lie to them, like this:

Here you come to save the day!

And while Viacom and the dairy industries are counting
their cash, cows are counting on you to save them. Cows
make milk for their babies, not for people!

Please don't eat cheese or other dairy products. You'll
be saving some mother cows and their babies if you make
your life cheese-free!

HOW CAN I HELP SAVE THE CHICKENS?
Life for chickens on factory farms is awful!
Chickens can feel things just as dogs and
cats do. Please help animals and stay healthy
by becoming a vegetarian! Call or write to
PETA for free recipes.

HOW CAN I HELP SAVE THE PIGS?
Pigs value their lives just as much as you
and I value ours. So please don't eat them!
Call or write to PETA for free animal-

Some parents don't want their children lied to, at home or at
school.

How about if meat consumers started to target the children of "ARAs",
and teach them that some types of meat involve fewer animal deaths
than some types of vegetable products? Maybe it would be good to make
up some fliers with kids asking things like "why can't people have dogs
or horses any more?", and the parents explaining to them that it's better
for those animals to never live, than it is for them to live in human captivity.
And explain to them that being vegetarian does absolutely NOTHING to
contribute to better lives, longer lives, or any lives for farm animals. It contributes
to wildlife deaths, and that is all it contributes to.
Check out these lies Ray...I just bumped into them on a quick search:

According to the report, the fliers even urge
children to protect their pets from mom: "The
sooner she stops wearing fur, the sooner the
animals will be safe. Until then, keep your
doggie or kitty friends away from mommy
she's an animal killer.''
Child psychologist Dr. Carolyn Newberger
decried the tactic.
"It's using children in the worst possible way,''
she told the Herald. "If (the activists) want to
legitimately work to protect animals from
destruction for fashion, they have every right
to. But to do so by targeting children and
making them feel their mothers are murderers
is absolutely unconscionable.''

But do they also point out that eating vegetables, using paper, wood, electicity,
roads, buildings, etc... kills animals just as wearing fur does? No. They want
to make mom out to be horrible, even though the disgusting "ARAs" are guilty
of the same thing.
