Deep bedding system

I've been reading about housing swine on a 'Swedish Deep Bedding System' and
was wondering how chickens are bedded. The hogs are basically housed in an
insulated building with a concrete floor. Clean bedding is placed over the
used bedding and cleaned out only occasionally. The bedding decomposes and
creates heat for the hogs. The ventilation is important because the liquid
evaporates. The websites swear that the odor is not bad!

I was told by someone that they cleaned out their chicken coop once or twice
per year! I thought YUCK! at first, but now I wonder if it's just a deep
bedding system, where you add fresh bedding on top.

Is the hog system based on the the fact that hogs root? Maybe they stir the
bedding and allow for evaporation???

Any thoughts? I'm used to cleaning stalls daily and have just been doing
that for the chickens too. What system do any of you use??

Thanks,
K.
