On a bill, which by Alun Michaels OWN ADMISSION on Radio 4 yesterday was
re-introduced NOT as an Animal Welfare bill, but as a means of "managing the
Labour Party". This bill has consequently become completely morally
bankrupt, those who voted for it are similarly morally bankrupt, and have
also lost the right to be called "Right Honourable" as they are NOT right,
and are NOT honourable. To deprive a significant minority of their way of
life purely to "manage the Labour Party" is morally and ethically
indefensible when there are so many more pressing issues abounding.
If you did a survey of all the population and asked the question "Do you
ever think about hunting" I bet 99% of the population would answer "NEVER".
The ONLY people to whom this issue matters is the 400 or so bigoted and
ignorant labour MPs, the 10,000 or so active antis and the *500,000* who
practice and support it.
This is NO basis for any sort of legislation, and is why, in the end, it
will fail.
