I have to get familiar with your part of the world. Here we have
daylight savings time, keeps it light at the same time in the morning
only it gets dark a lot sooner. Even though it is light out at 6:00am,
it is still very cold! So with the window my girls get the light they
need even though they can't go outside until about 10:00am. When I go
to let them out, my girls are giving me dirty looks for "Why did you
take so long? The sun has been up for hours!"

In the evening I turn on the heat lamps (only to keep the waterers from
freezing) and that gives them light for over night. Right now we have
mid teens overnight with daytime highs of about 50°F. In deep winter
the night time will stay the same and the day time will hit about
35-40°F.

The past 3 winters I have not even noticed a decline in production.
Would this be 'hard' on my girls, not giving them a break?
