Hi, Burl!
Those hurricanes brought us an unusually wet, cool summer and fall.
That translates to many, many days of dense cloud cover. For example,
we have had over seven inches of rain for November alone, our average
being a little over three inches. We have had two days of sunlight.
My ducks are of the Khaki Campbell breed. My neighbor's hens are from
white and red laying breeds. My birds should be expected to slow down
for molt and take a couple of weeks off during the worst of winter
(usually in January), but then produce the rest of the year - like
they have in years past. My oldest birds are going on four years old,
the youngest are my replacements from this past spring. My neighbor's
girls are only two years old.
We'll see if light is the answer.
Hope you didn't lose too much in the hurricanes. My in-laws are down
there. They were hit for the first time in thirteen years. They are
still not in their home, waiting for repairs to be finished.
