Yikes! I've just taken delivery of our first hens -

Buffy, the Buff Orpington (ginger);
Beyonce, the Black Orpington (with georgeous gold highlights);
Hermione, the White Sussex who is brainy (found the food first)
and Marilyn, a Silver-Laced Wyandot, who is very pretty (as in Miss
Monroe).

I have gone all soppy and 'in love' and am completely ashamed of
myself! They have already proved to be excellent therapy for my sick
mother who suffers from various afflictions and finds life very
difficult - she has lit-up at the sight of the girls. (Sorry,
whittering-on because I'm a bit excited at the moment!)

My current questions for you experienced people is . . .

I have heard about various 'natural' medications (I am trying to be as
"organic" as I can without being over the top and unnecessary).
Garlic in the water; Citricidal grapefruit stuff; various vitamin
complexes etc. Do you think these are worthwhile? Would you give any
of them as prophylactics - as in trying to prevent disease rather than
cure something?

Also is it worth putting mite-powder in a dustbath to stave-off the
little bleeders?

Sorry for my ignorance!

Thank-you very much,

Harriet (aka ut0p1an)
