Some of our hens are sprouting small spurs. Only the oldest rooster has
spurs of any size at all, and they still aren't all that big or sharp.

I found that the biggest giveaway (aside from crowing) for roosters is
the saddle. Between the wings and the tail, hens tend to have neatly
placed feathers that point mostly back along the body, and roosters have
longer and more pointed feathers that fall elegantly off the back.
Instead of laying straight back, they lay to the side.
