Hi Joel,
no it wasn't too long a post - only what happened is so mysterious. I
can't imagine what would make a hen "cough up" such a lot of blood. I'm
almost sure that being egg-bound wouldn't, though.
In fact, when I read about the noise in the coop and the excitements of
the other hens, my first thought was an injury by a predator, but your
post-mortem seems to rule that out. Still the noise is striking to me,
because I wouldn't expect hens to get upset at the sight of blood, or if
one of them just quietly passed away.
