Hi Charlie,
welcome on board! You've found the right group, and it is a great idea
to keep some chickens in your garden if you don't mind them scratching
around in your flower beds ;-)
In which part of the world do you live? And how large is a "medium
sized" garden in that part or the world?
Two hens is the absolute minimum, a hen should not be alone. There is an
interesting phenomenon about chicken keeping - once you get interested
in them, their number increases constantly (they're addictive ;-) I
started with a large coop, four hens and a cockerel, and keep forty or
fifty birds today. There are so many beautiful breeds to choose from!
Just take a look at the chicken pages of www.feathersite.com to get an
idea....
I believe once we know where you're located someone here can suggest a
couple of good books on chicken keeping. Probably wouldn't make much
sense if I recommended a German one :-))
Nuele (D)
PS: the (D) is for Germany. When I started to read this group, someone
suggested we should add the country we're in to our signature and I
thought this was a good idea
