There are two types of birds... ones that have chicks that are feathered and
up and running within the day and the sparrow etc type that have no feathers
and cannot fend for themselves at all for quite some time. I can't remember
what these two types are called. Someone did tell me once a long time ago
when the realisation first dawned on me.
I watched one of my pullets eye up a slug one day. She kept cocking her head
and staring at it every time she thought she saw it move. It wasn't in any
hurry and she didn't seem to notice it if it didn't move. She wandered off
after a while, leaving the slug to do whatever it was doing.
She's ten this year.
