I was thinking about this and thought this might be the reason. The hens do
not want to be confined with so many cockerels which can mate them and rip
them. The hens know they have no escape from the cocks in the shed. The
cockerels want to stay with the hens who don't want to be shut in with the
cockerels, (hardly blame them really).
Eat 2 of the cockerels as you say. At least with Brahmas, you have
cockerels of a decent size to eat. The sooner the better for the hen's
sakes.
