No she was quite clear Dennis. In fact when I phoned the club sec' I asked
if thee were any umpless araucana bantams in the UK because every breeder of
araucanas I had spoken to had never seen one. All I asked initially was "can
you tell me if there are rumpless araucanas in this country please"? At
which point she started going on about she wasn't able to divulge private
details to me, data protection act, blah blah. I was taken aback a bit as I
had not asked her to divulge anything at this point, merely was trying to
verify whether this breed actually existed in this country. After I
explained this, she said they *did* exist, but to see a list of breeders I
would have to join the club and it costs £10 per year. Well I already pay
around £50 a year in subscriptions to breed clubs I am more interested in
and don't want to spend anothe tenner just to get hold of the breeders list.
I will ask around and if I don't find any fair enough, I will look for
another rumpless breed like the Barbu d' grubbe which I am far more
interested in. Enough to fly over to Belgium to find hatching eggs, and the
araucana club will have lost a potential new breeder and enthusiast who
might have joined the club as I got more involved in the breed. If breed
clubs are happy to discourage new members and like to build obstacles to
getting their breeds more widely available that's fine with me.
