I know Laurie :~)))
- my mother was a specialist in public health :~))
and I have been posting things on and off about it.
That is why I said until [when] -- its going to happen and its very scary
but there is no risk until then and then the risk is human to human not
backyard chook in the US or UK to human
The avian flu you have in the US is the wrong strain - its not one that has
mutated like that
So was this poster trying to stir up a hornets nest ?
Very interesting that there has been NO response from the OP
Troll - me thinks

Yes - that is why they are all SO so scared
But there are only certain strains that are close enough

Its happening every month in Asia at the moment

Most of the cases are handling birds or handling patients who have got it
- raising poultry is HUGE HUGE business over there
Most of it is for export markets.

Yes -- but it is VITAL to remember and include that it is not the strains
that hit the continental Europeans each year nor the ones that circulate
around the United States seemingly endlessly - someone somewhere has it.
While high welfare practises are important THESE birds are not suddenly
going to pass flu to their owners.
The Asian strain is a different beast altogether.
It is

Previous years it was many many millions across Asia

They have already tried that but cannot afford to do it again - it very
much looks like they are trying to live with it and attempting to enforce
some sort of biosecurity controls
This is almost worthless ifyou have a look at the way these birds are
reared -- completely open to the elements nad interaction with wild birds
and people without precautions. Hundreds of thousands of birds in small
spaces often kept over water so the droppings feed fish --
Biosecurity !!!!!!!
Its a joke but the economies cannot afford to cull again -- it cannot afford
the compensation or loss of income
They are bringing out all sorts of herbal concoctions -- I heard of one of
fermented something with ginger and garlic !!! which was reported the other
day to have improved the health of chickens who were infected with the AI so
was going to be tried on a large scale!!!!!!!!!!!1
WHY are these birds being allowed to live
Have the WHO completely lost thier grip on world health
Its too scary for words -- but having birds in your back garden is not

No --- sorry
I am saying that while the EU and the US are making righteous noises about
not importing meat from China so not putting thier public at risk, that
China is not where most of the meat that is imported comes from.
Thailand and the other asian countries are where most of the EU and US
companies are rearing much of their meat nowadays. It arrives in our
countries as prepacked meals, or portions, so they say there is no risk.
These countries may not be the place it started but they are HEAVILY
involved and affected.
But heaven help any western company being affected economically -- no no
that would not do!!! cynic me -- never :~)
