Shawn,
I haven't seen hawks in my yard, though there are loads around, but I have
seen bald eagles hanging out in the local trees looking for a nice meal.
When there are birds of prey around, though, I can't get the chickens out of
the bushes for nothing (even if I were trying to shoo them back into their
run for safety). As Neule and Eileen mentioned, their shrubbery and
roosters do a good job of keeping an eye on things (well, the shrubbery
doesn't keep an eye on things, but I think you know what I meant :-). In
your several acres, what kind of cover do you have? Is it all open pasture?
Maybe you just need to add some more places to hide? What breed(s) of
chickens do you have? Maybe you need to get some less domesticated ones to
keep the complacent ones on their toes?

I like the scarecrow and CDs ideas, too. Though maybe you'd need to call it
a scarehawk. <g>

Selene
