All chickens lay eggs. If you want a hybrid egg machine that is fairly bog
standard but lays lots of eggs that is one thing. If you wnat something a
little prettier, more unusual and still lays lots of eggs that's another. As
I said, the PP mag has a list of breeders, it tells you roughly what they
breed, you can look up those breeds on the internet, or go and have a look
on my webpage at some of the birds I keep to give you a start. For reliable
layers, which look unusual and lay a fairly large beautiful white egg, I can
recommend the silver spangled hamburgh which is white with black spots. They
seem very popular and certainly I have a waiting list for mine.
You could always phone a couple of your closest breedersl, explain your
dilemma and ask their advice. If they are like me, they have no problem
offerring advice and talking about chickens, and like people to come and
look at their birds. We are a fairly friendly bunch on the whole and I am
happy to natter and show my birds even to people who want breeds I don't
keep so no chance of a sale. Doesn't matter to me at all, I love talking
chicken.
