Advice on worming please.

Worming poultry seems to be a nightmare with conflicting advice on what to
use, on-licence, off licence. eat eggs, don't eat the eggs, etc etc.
Does anyone here have any difinitive advice on what to use. My father in law
uses Furexel, which contains Ivermectin for his pigeons. This is issued from
a vet but because its off licence its at his own risk. He has had 30 years
experience with his birds and is confident using this product. Can it be
used on poultry? If so, at what dose. I did read that you can buy layers
pellets with a wormer incorporated. I have used a "natural" powder in the
past, but I can't remember what it was called and I am not really sure that
it worked. My chickens seem healthy but they do free range in the garden so
I want to stay on top of any problems.
Any advice would be useful
Thanks
