Bark chippings instead of straw?

What do folk think of the use of bark chippings in a hen's run as oppose to
straw.

I read on 'omlets' website [you know the guys who make the Eglu chicken
houses] that bark chips are fine and only need to be raked out and replaced
once a month. Currently I muck out once a week with using straw and quite
frankly the idea of less work appeals!

Comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.
