NEWCASTLE DISEASE in UK

The recent outbreak of Newcastle Disease in Surrey shows just how
susceptible we are here to imports of birds.
This is the first outbreak since 1997 and was brought in by pheasants from
the Loire. The most likely source was migratory birds on a lake near the
farm.
It shows just how vulnerable we are and how easy it would be for all the
folks who bring in birds from other countries without full testing to bring
something else with the birds. Its does not take much.
Hopefully all the birds in this case have been destroyed by now and had not
been released for long enough to infect the local bird population
