Help - I got a rat in my chicken coop!

Hi folks,
I noticed, there is a rat in my chicken coop.
Do rats eat eggs?
Should I set a rat trap (the old fashioned one with a bait and a metal piece
coming down on the head/neck of the rats)?
I'm worried, the chickens might pick on the bait and might get their foot or
beak insured by the trap?
Any advise, how to get that rat out of my coop without endangering the
birds?
