poor sparrows...

I don't doubt it a second - just out of interest, what does the
instruction leaflet say, do you have to repeat it at intervals, too? Or
does it kill the eggs as well in one go?

<g> I do them at night, too.... so no problem to catch them, although
not everyone involved appreciates the procedure ;-)
The vaseline is also a really cheap solution.

I'm glad to say that we still have plenty of sparrows around. Their
numbers seem to be declining everywhere. Here in the country they still
seem to find enough nesting places and food for their young.
However, I am always careful not to have chicken food accessible to them
during the day. I feed layers pellets in the morning, as much as they
can eat within 15 minutes (plenty of feeders around so every chicken has
access to the food), and in the afternoon they get the same (except
during winter I feed a grain mix in the afternoon with maize to keep
them warm).

Ah, what a shame. I have between 25 (winter) and 50 or so, I wouldn't
know which ones to keep if I were to pick out only eight of them and get
rid of the others.... Must have been hard for you. Can you let them
hatch chicks at all now?
