sorry Jill and Nicholas - both are accurate - here is a link to

I didn't mean to "dog" ya, I was referring to poultry folk lore in general as I wanted to pass on the duck egg story. I too believe that free range chicken's and their eggs are better for us. At the very least we can be sure they haven't been pumped full of antibiotics and hormones.

The results on that website do speak volumes. I just did a quick search of the net and most sites do agree with you. Having said that, most also agree that it depends on what the hens are eating.

My chickens are free to roam the farm, however I've seen my kids sharing pop-tarts, candy bars and you-name-it with our hens on more than one occasion, so their eggs maybe a little higher in cholesterol at times. I guess the old saying is true and applies to chickens too, "You are what you eat".

I don't worry much about the cholesterol that comes from eggs, saturated fats are the real culprit in high cholesterol problems. My cholesterol was just checked and it was only 125. I eat eggs everyday! I also prefer to make cake icing out of lard and butter, just like granny did!! There is none better. Of course we're just ignorant county folk! ;)

It's the pre-packaged crap you get in the grocery store that kills ya!!
