The probabilities have increased dramatically in the past 3 years due to the
virus becoming endemic in many parts of SE Asia. There are hundreds of
thousands of birds who can carry this virus without any clinical symptoms
which are able to get in close proximity to chickens to which this virus is
highly pathogenic.
This virus is very mobile and is mutating like a silverfish. Lots of little
quivers and changes all the time.
The probability of one of these chains of mutation including the human flu
virus is now very very high.
The clinical activity of this particular virus is such that when it does
past experience of this virus type shows that it will move VERY VERY VERY
fast around the world affecting young and old alike. There are strong
indications that it will not be one that only affect the weak, old and
infirm. It is showing all the signs of being a flu variant that hits the
young and fit as well.
Medically it is very hard to do anything in the face of a fast acting virus.
Most things are treating secondary infections and bolstering ones immune
system for the fight.

One thing that is important to remember is that the "pandemic" refers to the
virus in its human form -- when that happens it has no relevance to chickens
whatsoever -- keeping, eating, or anything else. IT has moved on from them
altogether
