Only way to really control rats is with poison bait.
Used PROPERLY, other animals will not get it.
I have yet to poison a dog or a chicken (or an emu) and I've been
poisoning rats for years.
Chances are, if you see ONE rat, there are at least 20.
Humane traps don't work that will. One, they breed WAY too fast, and
two, they are very smart. Once you trap a few, the other learn and won't
go near it.
Rats are bad. They eat a lot of feed, carry diseases and do untold
amounts of property damage. Kill all that you can!
