:-)
I always look forward to the first morning with snow on the ground. The
young birds that have never seen it before will come flying through the
door as I open it, as usual, but then realise that something's totally
wrong!
Complaining loudly, they fly around in circles, not knowing whether it's
safe to land on this surface, and whoever can manage to land on an
elevated spot and not on the ground will gladly do so. Pullets have
been seen on top of the bird table, standing like a statue, not daring
to move for ages!
It's not until they have watched the older birds for quite a while that
they decide to give it a try. The next day, however, they will deny that
they have ever been anxious about touching snow with their feet, or that
there has been a time when they didn't know such a thing existed ;-)
I did have one hen, though, a bantam Barnevelder, blue laced, very
pretty. She refused to leave the coop when we had snow. Once, it started
to snow while she was standing at our front door with her friends. When
it got dark, they all went back home - except for one. I had to pick her
up and take her to the coop!!! Now that was a fine lady.
