Hi Mark,

is there a window in your coop?

if there isn't and your hens are of the busy kind and go to bed late, it
may be so dark inside the coop that they can't see well enough.

Not very likely, but the only thing I can think of that hasn't been
mentioned already. Last night I moved mine to a new coop, and of course
everyone was really upset and didn't stay on the perches where I put
them. A few dropped down on the floor and didn't get back up until I
switched on a torch and gave them some light so they could see where
their mates were.

I think the idea of offering them one really low perch is worth a try.
Less chickens - I don't think six are too much :-)
