on the 19th when he said "Will be nice to be able to buy lawn mowers at 3am
again tho.

". That would imply 24 hour shopping surely?

Why should anyone expect a welcome? Country folks seem to be 'reserved' the
world over at first and having lived all over the world I never found anyone
to be unfriendly.
I can remember reding a story once and it goes something like this:
A man walking along a road meets a stranger leaning on a gate just outside
a village. He asks the stranger "what are the people like in this village"?
The stranger replies with "what were they like in the last place you lived?
The man replied" They were a miserable lot, surly, unfriendly and
unhelpful", the stranger replies "You will find the people in the next
village just the same".

Of course I saw it but since he mentiooned that people elswhere were also
unfriendly it made me wonder why when I have found people to be the
opposite. Having said that I did a little research before I moved to a
different countryu and never hankered for what I had left behind. Some
people have unrealistic ideas and to be honest I have met too many townies
who move to the country and then moan and com[plain at every opportunity
about how unlike the city it is and how the city had this amenity or that
amenity etc etc etc. One wonders why they moved in the first place.
Sure have a dream but if earning lots of money is important to you, and
being able to buy a lawnmower at 3AM is important to you and having things
like mains drainage, cinemas and the like then for goodness sake be
realistic, the rural life isn't for you.
