Speaking of being unwelcome...

When I was in the Navy during Desert Storm we had liberty in Dubai, the locals were willing to take our money, but when they looked at us we could feel the hate. I doubt many people have had that experience. Sure most of us have spoken with someone didn't like us. But to have someone look through you with true HATE in their eyes is not a good feeling at all. Most of the world looks at US and British peoples with hate, not because we are bad people, but because our governments are doing the deeds of evil and we get associated with those deeds even though we are powerless to do anything about those deeds.

The only good time I had in Dubai was on the 4th of July. The local government would not allow our crew to have a party on the beach or to light off any fireworks. There was an British fleet club there and they gladly welcomed us to join them for a celebration. I will always remember the party they hosted for us. We drank a boatload of beer and sang many songs, including the US National Anthem..and then a British anthem.

Sorry, I for some reason, reading this thread made me start thinking of the hate I felt in that miserable desert place.
