Re: Rabies in the US

OUCH! I asked about a park because I used to feed an albino squirrel by hand at a park in Olney, Illinois. He was very tame and loved to eat French Fries.

Thanks for the story. I would have probably done the very same thing. :)

Hi Nicholas,
fair question.
I have an automatic dog feeder (the one with a latch, that the dogs push in
with their noses to get to the dry food).
I walked by it and heard some strange rumbling noise in it.
So I opend the top lid to see what's going on.
I spotted the tail of a squirrel in the full dog feeder, and realized, that
the squirrel was desperately trying to get out, but couldn't, since the
bottom latch opens inward.
Being an animal lover and feeling sorry for the trapped squirrel, I pushed
the bottom latch inward
to fascilitate the squirrel's escape.
However, the dry food kept pushing down towards the latch, blocking the
escape.
I then pushed the dry food to the side of the latch with my right hand,
while pushing the latch inward with my left hand, thereby trying to get an
opening large enough for the squirrel to escape.
This did the trick. The squirrel finally managed to get out, but in doing
so, he bit my index finger on my right hand side.
I guess he thought, I was trying to hurt or kill him, and intuitively bit my
finger.
That really hurt and the finger started to bleed profusely, since the
squirrel punched his two front fangs right into my nail, almost down to the
bone.
That was the thanks I got, for being a good samaritan, besides costing me a
small fortune for the tetanus shot.
Now in hindsight, I should have turned the dog feeder upside down instead.
That would have spilled all the dry food and made a mess, but the squirrel
would have come out with the dry food, and I would not have gotten my finger
bit.
Oh well, we all learn from our mistakes.
Btw, I never feed squirrels, they've got enough to eat out there, with all
the trees and bushes.
