Hi Roy,
there are of course a large number of different animals that can have
rabies, but the risk of infection for a human seems to be greater with
some species.
I don't remember any human infections caused by squirrel bites in the
posts I got as a result, but if you visit promedmail.org and search the
archives specifically for "rabies" and "squirrel" you might get a more
detailed answer.
Bats, however, were the most likely source of infection in the US, which
I found a bit surprising.
