I'm very sorry for your loss.

Wow - thank you all so much for the kind words of sympathy.

Word spread "in real life", and earlier this evening, and "distant but not
too far away"(!) relative gave me a call, and said "pop over tomorrow.
I've got some traps for you. Have 'em."

I have no idea what type of trap it is yet, or whether town foxes will be
wise to it, but he seemed confident that it makes "a satisfying mess of
vermin".

Hmmm. I don't like the sound of that. A satisfying mess? I use a large
catch alive trap here and the foxes that are in there are killed instantly
by a bullet, there is no mess.

Won't bring the chickens back, but at least I'll be "doing my bit" :)

Foxes are a real nuisance for poultry keepers here in the UK. It will get
worse now the hunts are outlawed.
