Foxes have been controlled by Man for thousands of years. There has
been the same conflict of interests since Man started to domesticate
animals. This is not a new phenomena and foxes have evolved around our
habits. Foxes are not the top of the tree - Man removed their natural
predator only 300 years ago -- the wolf.
Since then the battle has intensified :~))
Man is part of evolution -- and the foxes have evolved pretty neatly
The idea that some local populations may now be hunting in packs in
British Cities is case in point
I'll offer a solution, I'll ship you coyotes. They will control your fox
population. 20 years ago, fox abounded here, then coyotes proliferated.
It's now very rare to see a fox these days. I have one living 100 yards
from my chicken house and I'm thrilled. I simply trained him to hunt
elsewhere. Chickens are NOT what he wants. It took a great deal of
vigilance, and I'm sure when she starts whelping this years kits, the
vigilance will need to intensify. But it's worth it, and I enjoy watching
her comings and goings.
Coyotes have an added feature and they help control cats. They aren't
dangerous like wolves, and I welcome the coyote presence here also
because of the cat control. I just hope he leaves the fox alone!
