I'm very sorry for your loss.
Wow - thank you all so much for the kind words of sympathy.
Word spread "in real life", and earlier this evening, and "distant
but not too far away"(!) relative gave me a call, and said "pop
over tomorrow. I've got some traps for you. Have 'em."
I have no idea what type of trap it is yet, or whether town foxes
will be wise to it, but he seemed confident that it makes "a
satisfying mess of vermin".
Hmmm. I don't like the sound of that. A satisfying mess? I use a
large catch alive trap here and the foxes that are in there are
killed instantly by a bullet, there is no mess.
Won't bring the chickens back, but at least I'll be "doing my bit"
:)
Foxes are a real nuisance for poultry keepers here in the UK. It
will get worse now the hunts are outlawed.
Oh surely not since the hunts won't need to breed foxes if they aren't
allowed to hunt them.
Surely you don't believe that hunts breed foxes, do you? Why would they
need to? The ruddy things breed well here all on their own.
Besides, the hunts tell us constantly that most
of the foxes get away.
Yes, a lot do. But any form of fox control is good as far as I'm concerned.
People are still allowed to lamp for them
which is much better at controlling them.
What difference do you see in lamping with lurchers (killing foxes by dogs
at night in the light of a lamp, for those who don't know) and going after
them by day with hounds?
Why do you think lamping is better at controlling foxes than hunting?
Because they get more, or what?
Or is it really a class thing?
Tina
