Are they of sufficent quality for foundation stocks?
We got the pure breeds from the Wernlas Collection. They seem good to
us :)
What breeds and what purpose ?
At the moment they are just pets, but when we get set up over there
they won't be. We're thinking of a flock of table birds (still to be
decided what, though), a mixed flock of egg laying birds, and then
some pure breeds to help preserve them and sell them.
At the moment we have light sussex, welsummer, silver grey dorking,
gold laced and blue laced wyandotte, cream legbar, barred plymouth
rock, and a buff orpington.
About £10.00 per test per bird per disease the last time I asked
:~((
Ouch! 11 x 10 x 3 is a lot of pennies, then I'd guess similar in
Sweden.
How close are your nearest poultry neighbours?
[sorry I meant in UK as it would impinge on your ability to set up an
isolated unit]
Probably around 200 - 300 metres away. And they don't keep them
anywhere near as well as we do. We've counted at least 50 birds in
half the space we have, with no grass just mud etc etc. :(
In Sweden? Not sure. Spoke to the local council in Tomelilla and they
say there is no problem with keeping any animals on the land "It's a
farm. You should keep animals on it". Fair enough... They also
couldn't say where the nearest keepers are, or even how to find out.
hmm - If I get a chance I will go into my old computor and look at old
emails - I am sure I have had various conversations about importing birds /
eggs [ie requests I have had to decline over the years.]
Thanks, that'd be helpful. It's very much appreciated.
