Hi there Jill
No i've no idea how long we will be shut down and keep our poultry
inside. After they found the swans in Germany we (all people in all
regions with poultry) were asked to bring your birds inside or keep
them onder a roof of some kind. So i used some large plastic on the
roof of the pens to keep the pens covered. From monday on they will
controle if you did.
I still wonder were the dead birds come from. did they wear rings, did
they come from Asia because of the severe cold there and lost there
way to end up in Europe. What kind of swans spieces was it?
From what I understand they are all Mute swansthese are not migratory but are driven to move when food supplies are low -
like this winter there
The German, Danish, Polish deaths were all in the same [ish] area around the
Baltic
It may be that infected ducks from Russia and the old USSR states where
there is domestic infection had moved into the Baltic also looking for fresh
food supplies and have infected this area
A few of the birds moving into continental Europe for feeding grounds
explains the occurance of individuals isolated around
The real problem is in the next months of the waterfowl migrants from the
south of Europe and the North of Africa who are about to start travelling
over Spain, Italy, France, Holland, Germany and the rest of Eastern Europe
to their breeding grounds to the North and the East up to the Arctic. These
are going to the possibly infected areas :(((
With areas of infection like Turkey, Greece, Italy, Eygpt and places so far
not acknoweldging it like maybe Libya some of these birds could be carriers
too.
Next autumn could be very very very bad
Here in the UK our waterfowl migrants are about to leave, we get very very
few of the birds above - the incoming ones are species who have not been
shown in all the years to be carriers.
And why is
there birdflu in Nigeria and not in the surrounding countries. Are
there sick birds we are not told about? Or is the dissease imported by
accident by meat suppliers?
Nigeria is most likely to be day olds / eggs from infected China - illegal
exports.
Very few countries including those in Europe are able to breed and rear all
the own birds for the commercial market
PLaces like Nigeria import millions of day olds / eggs each year
Even in Europe there are massinve grandparent breeding institutions where
eggs for the commercial hybrids are produced. Other places hatch them. Other
places rear them. Other places have them as layers
IN between they move around across borders and around the country
While biosecurity and legalities are maintained there is no threat -- where
any of that breaksdown there could be trouble
As i remember us was told migrating birds from Asia migrate to
differend regions then those out of Europe The Europeans go to Africa
the Asians to south Asia? But now there is birdflu in Nigeria out of
nowere how come?
greetings xinixx
I wish you all the luck
I gather they are culling domestics in Ruegen - hopefully it will be
controlled in the area of outbreak
If you see any good ideas for pens and solutions to keeping birds
entertained and contained please share them with us all
There may be many of us needing it in the next few years
