However as an aside to this thread, if we wanted to have our chickens
vaccinated would it be allowed?

Its an important question
At present I understand that anyone who has asked has been told that there
is none available and that we can only vaccinate if we get EU permission

The French and Dutch now have permission so, by EU rules, surely we
*do* have permission.

Ours are definitely in the group that
the French and Dutch are considering vaccinating - small group of free
range chickens which are difficult to move under cover permanently.

It is very unlikely that any lockdown will be permanent.
The autumn when the migrants return - yes
Around an area of outbreak - yes while its being dealt with

How many birds do you have?

We have eight.

What species?

Six hybrid chickens and two Wyandottes.

We can get our cats/dogs/horses inoculated against anything so why not
our chickens?

BEcause this is not a vaccine that has had all the wrinkles taken out of it.
Its not proven to be 100% effective and it has contradications which have to
be considered.

Why should effectiveness be a factor in whether it's allowed to be
used or not? I realise there are issues relating to whether it would
mask a carrier but if one banned all vaccines that weren't '100%
effective' then no vaccines would be allowed at all.

Unfortunately all vaccines are not the same :~((

Fortunately surely! :-)
