Other than bird flu?
I could tell you all about how my gander Shylock got a new love after
his goose died aged 21. If you like..
Yes please
What breed?
I'm not really sure. He's large and white. He could be an Embden. My
neighbour got him for me a couple of years ago when my old gander died, from
a farm that he passes occasionally and had seen geese in the field next to
the road.
He was very pleased when he brought him to me as he said the farmer had told
him that the young gander was well bred and quizzed him a lot about what
sort of home he was going to. He also said that he'd been told what breed
he was. Unfortunately he couldn't remember.. nor did he know the name of
the farmer/farm or could explain exactly where it was. I am making the
assumption that a well bred big white gander can't be much else than an
Embden. I could email you a pic of him if you think you could tell,
although IIRC he is sitting down.
I will post the story under Mary's post. How I accidentally came to keep
geese. I might not have time this evening, so if not it will be tomorrow
evening after I've finished visiting relatives.
