I have on my desk six Cream Legbar eggs, which are apparently supposed
to be green. They don't look too green to me at all though. Perhaps
like one of those "white, with the merest hint of green" paints you get
that only look at all green if you hold up something genuinely white
against them. The eggs were from the Devon Traditional Breed Centre
(www.dtbcentre.co.uk), so I'm hoping they're reasonably representative
of the breed.
Can anyone tell me how Cream Legbar eggs compare with Araucana eggs in
terms of intensity of colour?
James
As the Cream Legbar has only some blue gene in the mix from the Araucana
they are not as deep a colour usually as the Araucana. As it is mixed with
other breeds to get the legbar the egg colour is altered from the blue.
Depending on the strain of the Legbar and the selection process of the eggs
set to hatch by the breeder the eggs produced by the hens can vary from
shades of blue/green and vary in their depth of colour.
There are very few strains of good Legbar left - most of the pure ones are
related to these same strains. However any breeder can alter the colours and
qualities of the eggs produced in a few generations depending on their
choices.
