MOSCOW (Reuters) - The deadly bird flu virus, which has hit Asia,
Europe and Africa, may spread to the United States late this year and
risks mutating dangerously there, Russia's top animal and plant health
inspector said on Thursday.
"We think that H5N1 (strain of bird flu virus) will reach the United
States in autumn," Sergei Dankvert told Reuters.

Unsurprising -- if anyone wants to get a less hysterical view simply look at
simple migratory routes of waterfowl and compare and contrast with existing
known infected areas
All the birds from infected and non infected areas will be mingling in the
Arctic over the summer
There cannot be many - if any - countriesin the northern hemisphere that are
not at risk of an infected bird arriving this autumn.
However unless the response is poorly orchestrated there is nothing to
prevent these all being isolated outbreaks and dealt with appropriately.
There is ABSOLUTELY no connection between outbreaks by migratory waterfowl
and the virus "mutating dangerously"
However if by irresponsible/illegal trading the industry allows the virus to
enter and get a hold of vast populations of chickens for the next few years
then more of what has been seen in China will be likely.

Hysteria is not useful
