I see from uk.rec.gardening, you have already thought of
that solution.
Indeed, though I used an air rifle in this particular instance -- I'm
not really into picking shot out of my food.
Looks like the way to go is to make a set of single-bird wire cages with
a hole in large enough to get my hand into and then transfer birds to
those overnight. Time to plan for that yet then, as there'll be no more
to dispatch until I see how many cockerels we get from the eggs in the
incubator at the moment.
