Sometimes sparrows and the like would find a way in to my pens and then be
unable to escape. The chickens would chase them around and the birds would
invariably die from the stress of not being able to rest unless I found them
quickly enough to shoo them out the door. The chickens themselves would at
times catch one of the birds and peck it to death and often left no visible
wounds on the sparrow.
I seriously doubt that the birds are flocking to your pens to die from
disease. More likely they're entering the pen and dieing from the stress of
being trapped with the larger birds. I'd try to seal up the pen to keep the
sparrows out, though. No point in having them killing themselves on a
regular basis or risk potential transmission of disease.

Every morning for the past week, I have found a dead sparrow in my chicken
coop in the morning. The hens are all well. There is a 1 inch entry hole
where the wood is broken, where they enter in the night. The coop is open
during the day. When i put the chickens to bed, there are never any
sparrows in the coop. come morning, there is always a dead sparrow laying
on the floor in the morning. Just one.
The hens are healthy. But I'm now puzzled about why these sparrows are
dying. They have no blood or trauma. Where would I get these sparrows
tested? And do i have reason to be concerned?
We have West Nile infections in the local feral bird populations. Is west
nile a threat to chickens?
