backyard ducks

My wife and I have been looking to get a pair of ducks for our backyard,
and would welcome advice on breeds and any other advice/cautions.

Ideally, we'd like them to help with our resident slug population, provide
eggs, and be general pets. The neighborhood is residential (1/4 and 1/2 acre
lots), so incessant noise wouldn't be welcome. For the pair of ducks, we're
thinking of 2 females (we don't really want to go into breeding; is this
expected to cause behavioral problems?)

From the books and online sites we've checked, Pekins seem to be the
main candidate -- possibly a Rouen or Indian Runner.

Any further advice?

Thanks,
Matt
