Hi there
i speak for my self but mine birds are fine.I even think of making a
permanent cover over the coop/pen for it is much cleaner, now the
groundfloor can'tget wet anymore.

That is our thinking too - we had been playing with ideas for some sort of
covers to parts of the enclosures anyway.
We are very exposed so designs that will stay intact have to be rather
clever!
We also have 12ft by 8ft houses that are moved around the fields so finding
something to work with them has not been easy
Our weather has definately got wetter in the past few years so the birds
will benefit from the shelter. This is true of places that have got hotter
too - the birds need shade.
I would say that in the long run - over years - we will all save money on
bedding and on feeding and on time. But its a lot of money to find at a
difficult time to start with.

I don't think vaccinating my birds. their is no guarantee they will be
killed too in case of an outbreak, it's much too expensive for us owing
just a limited number of birds. I'm not aloud to give away eggs to
neighbours when my birds are vaccinated. Its not alloud to go to
poultryshows with vaccinated birds. When i vaccinate today my birds
have to keep inside several weeks non vaccinated birds are aloud
outdoors again on 1 may

Thank you for this Jan - its very interesting.
I understood that in Holland smallholder people had been very active about
getting vaccinations allowed before it got serious. I know they were
vigorously approaching as many people around the EU as they could last year.
However it seems that alot of people have ended up with the same line of
thought as you - is that right?
Do you know many people with domestic flocks who have actually vaccinated
their birds?

Roll on 1st May and the great day out for your birds
