I concur. I was trying to find a vet to look at my chickens last
week. I called every vet in the county, and none would look at them
to worm them. I called the Agricultural Extension office , and they
suggested killing any sick chickens. These were not sick chickens,
they just had worms.

It took me a while to realise how different things are over the pond
when I first came here years ago
All the comments from poultry keepers here have been confirmed by a
number of vet students we have had here from the USA.
Both the Scottish Vet schools have foreign students including quite a
few from the US.
They have to do one ot two weeks poultry experience in their first 2
years and each summer we get 20 or more students to the farm. This
summer is probably to beat all records - quite a few weeks we have
three - we have no more space for more!
Its very interesting talking to folks from around the world about
veterinary practise and attitudes.
One thing that was quite a shock was that the US vets will accrue a
dept over 100 thousand dollars by the time they finsih vet school - it
has to be their second degree. But they expect to have this paid off
and have a house and be comfortable within 5 years.
Veterinary practise over there is a completely different ball game
:~)

I can see that. When my dog got sick 6 years ago, i had a $30,000 vet
bill to save him. 4 years later, the mortgage on my house that i took out
to pay vet expenses on the dog amounted to over $100,000
I'm now on my last dog. I simply cannot afford the vet bills.

I did find this, which i think is the most helpful regarding eggbound
birds
