Unwashed too - having washed some the chances are you shortened their
shelf life as the protective finish of the egg is removed which allows
bugs in

How do you clean eggs without washing them?

You keep nestboxes very clean every morning
You collect daily
You top dress the floor with shavings daily if it is getting at all mucky in
the areas they walk in and out of
You keep the area that the birds come into the house clean and dry so they
are not carrying muck in on themselves
You move the laying house to fresh clean grazing regularly to ensure the
birds are not getting mucky
In the UK you are not allowed to sell washed eggs for eating
You can dry brush them - if you have to "clean" them then use a plastic
scourer
Otherwise give the mucky ones to the dogs or boil them up and feed them to
the birds

Most of my eggs are clean
as many of the girls lay in their nestboxes, but some lay on the floor, or
occasionally a soft-shelled one gets smashed when a hen goes in to lay.
Customers don't mind a little bit of egg yolk on the shell, but chicken
poop is a little different story :-) .

You are ABSOLUTELY not allowed to wash eggs for sale here
Those eggs you describe are not fit to sell
Use them yourself, or back to the birds
You should not ever sell eggs like that

I've been washing the eggs in warm water (no soap), but I know what you
mean, the "film" I can feel on the eggs gets washed off when I do this.

- Andrea

If you are in the UK and any EHO found this out or - heaven forbid - anyone
became ill because they then misstored your eggs and the illness was traced
to you - you could be in SERIOUS trouble
You are producing a wonderful food product which also has the potential to
be one of the most dangerous
However small your production is you have a responsibility to your customer
and their welfare
Please do not sell these mucky or marked eggs
If you use them yourself - you know when they were laid and how quickly you
need to use them
