Jill, it was actually 2 days before I found the maggots. I treated her
wound but didn't want to pull her wing out more than necessary, to
possibly cause her further harm.
You do not need to pull the wing to feel along it
Once she is better practise with her
As for her having 'friends', I tried that. Felt sorry for
my lonely chicken. I had to return her companion because Bo was very
aggressive toward her new companion & I didn't want the new chicken hurt.
Evidently, Bo likes the company of horses. She grazes with them & rides
them. Go figure.
Chickens will take time to sort out their politics
As far as the 'neglected' pony, he learned how to turn a doorknob with his
mouth, got in the hay room & stomped on the live trap.
Sorry - you did say he got out constantly not once
I did not accuse you of neglect but was concerned that a known escape artist
had access to something as potentially dangerous as a wire cage in the same
place.
Certainly the mess the pony up the road is in probably made this more of a
point to me
Since he's a Houdini
pony, we've fixed the man door with a latch that he can't reach. And yeah,
I did have concerns that a pony could get near such a thing. Have you ever
had horses?
Yes -- up to 35 at one time that I worked with -- from foals to stallions,
native breeds to thoroughbreds
They came up with all manner of curiosities and problems
But a situation like that was never allowed to happen 'constantly'
If so, did you ever expect them to open a man-door with a round doorknob?
Yes -- they did it once and it was sorted
I also have had dogs that can do it - and goats
:~))
I have had my share of animals trying to get one up on me and expect to have
a lot more before my alloted span on this earth
When I boarded, there was a horse that could lick the sliding
latch open & escape. It happens & you have to fix it. Which I did. Does
that satisfy?
I did give Bo an exam but since there was no blood I missed it so I guess
it wasn't as thorough as you'd like. So sorry. Man, why did I come to this
NG? I'm getting attacked from all quarters.
I was careful to say I did not want to attack you but trying to help you in
the future
Its a shame that you consider a gentle help to be an attack - its hard in
type - you can not see expressions
Unfortunately its the same for us - we can only respond to the word you type
as well
By the way, in case you were wondering, Bo is doing great. So is the pony
& all the other animals. Thanks for caring.
You may think I don't -- but I do
I am glad she is improving
