So whatever is killing your chickens is vermin, right?
SHOOT it!
I had something steal a chicekn last night and wound two. I'm
sleeping in the barn tonight with a shot gun, rifle, and handgun
and flashlight. I've already set gazoodles of traps, and I'm going
to be ready tonight.

Good hunting!!!

Nothing showed up all night. i suppose that's good. But it did not
solve the issue, it only delayed it. <sigh> more nights in the barn,
I suppose

My personal experience with 'coons is 3 to 5 night cycles depending on
territory. :-P

I think it's the neighbors cat. She's got a litter of kittens and these
are young broilers, not full size chickens. i keep the local coon
population in check. I think they've been extirpated from the area.
We have a local fox with kits, I don't think this is her.
She only took one chick and wounded 2. These broilers are pretty easy
prey.

The cat has been prowling, and i've given her grace, but now birds are
being affected, if i catch her on my property, she's gone. I told the
neighbors, and they told me she had kittens. I said, she will stay home
then, right? Perhaps she didn't show because they thought containing her
was easier than hand nursing kittens?
