So whatever is killing your chickens is vermin, right?
SHOOT it!
I had something steal a chicekn last night and wound two. I'm
sleeping in the barn tonight with a shot gun, rifle, and
handgun and flashlight. I've already set gazoodles of traps,
and I'm going to be ready tonight.
Good hunting!!!
Nothing showed up all night. i suppose that's good. But it did
not solve the issue, it only delayed it. <sigh> more nights in the
barn, I suppose
My personal experience with 'coons is 3 to 5 night cycles depending
on territory. :-P
I think it's the neighbors cat. She's got a litter of kittens and
these are young broilers, not full size chickens. i keep the local
coon population in check. I think they've been extirpated from the
area. We have a local fox with kits, I don't think this is her.
She only took one chick and wounded 2. These broilers are pretty easy
prey.
The cat has been prowling, and i've given her grace, but now birds
are being affected, if i catch her on my property, she's gone. I told
the neighbors, and they told me she had kittens. I said, she will
stay home then, right? Perhaps she didn't show because they thought
containing her was easier than hand nursing kittens?
If they have any brains...
But then, if they did, they'd have spayed her, right?
<sigh>
Soooo tired of MILLIONS of cats being put to death in shelters every
year. :-( My little girl is curled up next to me right now. She never
goes out and was spayed at 6 months:

Those are some eyes!
Aren't they tho'. ;-)
I took the closeup for her eyes for one of the graphic art binaries
lists. She tolerated it pretty well considering I had to hold her up by
the scruff near the light source. A flash was not an option as her
eyelids were faster than the camera shutter. <G> She was well rewarded
for her patience. She trusts me as she knows I'd never hurt her.
And no, I have no issues at all with responsibly
kept animals. If you like your pet, you keep them HOME!
Yeah, I agree... Too many things to harm a cat. I'm on a busy street and
there are pit bulls one one side and a killer beagle on the other. Plus
my pair of lab/chows are not cat friendly.
