Spouse was in tears this morning.
<M>
He thought he'd closed in the hens and three five week old chicks last
night but when he got up this morning they were all in the garden - except
two chicks. He looked everywhere, there weren't even any feathers. He
suspected magpies or cats but there was no evidence at all.
We've watched these chicks like, well, like mother hens. We've weighed
them, followed their progress and loved them even though they've now
reached the pre-teens, you know, eight yo going on seventeen. He was
distraught and guilty.
what a nightmare at the time!
Then Mrs Next Door said that they were in her front garden. Her husband
had rung our bell and banged on our door at 6.30 am when he saw them but
we couldn't be woken.
They'd got through the 2" chain link fencing which is fox and hen proof
but not adventurous-chick-proof. As I type Spouse is attaching foot high
1/2" chicken wire to the chain link fencing in all the places where the
chain link is within a foot of the ground. It's bordered by cast concrete
by the way.
Little toerags
<sigh>
Ain''t Nature wonderful!
Just when you thought you had moved on from worrisome teenagers :~))
